Dental Bonding
Although Mother Nature does it best when it comes to teeth, a dental technique known as dental bonding is a close second! This treatment uses a special tooth-colored molding material bonded directly onto your teeth to rebuild damaged teeth or make cosmetic improvements to your smile.
The process is relatively inexpensive and is so natural looking, only we will know the difference! Best of all, a tooth can be bonded during a single visit to our office, and without anesthetic!
Make A Stellar First Impression
Whether or not dental bonding is a good choice for you depends on the size and the part of your tooth that needs to be treated.
- Dental bonding can be a great alternative to silver amalgam fillings, especially where appearance is important. You can replace old stained fillings in your front teeth with tooth-colored bonded fillings.
- We can build up a tooth that’s too small and fill in spaces between teeth that are too far apart.
- Bonding is also a perfect technique for fixing irregularly shaped teeth, for closing unsightly spaces between teeth, and to repair chips and fractures.
- Particularly stubborn stains on teeth can be masked by dental bonding. They virtually disappear!
With proper home care, bonded teeth can look as good as new for years before they need to be touched up.
It’s hard to pin down exactly what first impressions are made of. It could be the way a person dresses, speaks, or a barely noticeable mannerism. Teeth also have a lot to do with the way people judge us and form opinions about our character.
Studies have shown, for example, that the amount of tooth you show when you smile has a great impact on how old you look. In a more youthful smile, the front teeth are longer and help create a line that comes slightly downward in the middle and up at the corners. In an older smile the front teeth are worn, so the teeth appear straight across. Chips, discoloration, and stains can also age a smile.
Thanks to modern dentistry, bonding can turn back the clock on your smile. Our patients at Daniels Parkway Dental find bonding is an effective way to improve their smile by closing small spaces, masking stains, hiding chips and fractures, and even make a smile look more feminine or masculine.
Traditionally, men are more likely than women to ignore your oral health. An Academy of General Dentistry survey found that 34% of men aged 30-54, and 56% of males aged 55-90 have gum disease. This tendency toward dental neglect may be disappearing as more men are returning to the dentist’s office because of … surprise! … an increased interest in their appearance! In addition, three out of four individuals believe that an unattractive smile can hinder careers. Improving your smile power is an excellent reason to make dental visits a regular thing.
As your dentist, we have many ways to give you a confident, beautiful smile and help you achieve excellent oral health. We’re here to make sure you look and feel your best.
What is dental bonding?
Bonding is term that caught on back in probably the ‘80’s to describe composite filling restorations on the front teeth to alter appearance. In actuality, the white filling material placed on the front teeth is the same material as is used to fill cavities in back teeth but it is molded and shaped for a better esthetic appearance. The filling material is “bonded” to the tooth and hence the vernacular term. Depending on the health of the tooth or the amount of change desired; fillings (bonding), veneers, or crowns may be the right answer. It is also important to determine how many teeth should be altered to achieve an acceptable look. Dr. Shelly King has pursued advanced training in stronger and more esthetically pleasing techniques to use filling material to improve the looks of front teeth including training in Bioclear.
How long does the procedure take?
It all depends on how much change is required. Some bonded fillings may take minutes while others may take an hour or more per tooth.
How is the procedure performed?
This mostly depends on the health of the tooth prior to any restorations and how much change we are hoping to accomplish. In most cases, to make sure that you are comfortable, we will anesthetize the tooth, remove any decay or old fillings, then place the new material. Shaping the filling once placed is also an important part of the process. We would be happy to answer any questions before beginning the procedure.
Does the procedure hurt?
Some fillings can be placed without any pain and without any anesthetic (shots). In other cases, we will make sure that the procedure is as comfortable as possible by numbing you first.
What is the recovery time?
For fillings placed on teeth, there is generally no recovery time. Modern tooth colored filling materials are fully hardened by the bright visible lights we use when placing them. Because of that, you can chew on fillings immediately in most cases. We do recommend caution eating if you are still numb.
How long following the procedure can I eat or drink?
Immediately, as long as you are cautious about any temporary numbness and avoid biting yourself.

Great dentist office. The staff is incredibly helpful and friendly. The dentist isn't quick to jump to fillings for children with tiny cavities that could heal or cavities in a baby tooth that's coming out soon. The hygienist … More we see if very respectful of the decisions we make regarding fluoride. They are a wonderful family own practice and Dr. Bryant and Dr. Shelley are so great with our family.

Had an urgent need for an appointment (my porcelain crown fell out over holiday weekend). Being fairly new to the area and not having a regular dentist, I took a chance & stopped into Daniels Parkway Dental to see if I could get an … More appointment in the next few days. To my surprise they had an opening later that day. First let me say I was so impressed when I walked in to a beautiful bright well appointed clean office and warmly greeted by the friendly knowledgeable staff. Went ahead and took my insurance info (which they are filing for me so I can be reimbursed) and did all the paperwork. I say this because my time in the waiting area I noticed the pleased patients checking out and others coming in. Coming from up north who had a very modern excellent local dentist, Daniel Parkway Dental reminded me of what was left behind. And confirmed by the excellent medical care by Dr Shelly King. Both her & her assistant were gentle yet professional. In a layman’s eyes like myself I thought “just glue it back”, I’m so glad I didn’t try a do it yourself nor go to one of those “doc in a box” popping up on every corner. It was a very intricate procedure taking time to make sure the bites correct. Someone without much experience could have broken the tiny pins my old dentist had made. Or would have easily said I need a new one meaning lots of $$$$$. It was divine steering which brought me to Daniel Parkway Dental. A local family dentistry who’s been around for 20 years and not going anywhere. This evening I was able to enjoy my food and would never know it had fallen out few days ago. I’m so glad I’ve found a dental practice I can trust & look forward to going back for routine care for myself & my husband.
Thank you again Dr Shelly King & staff🤗
